Repairing and Restoring Environmentally Damaged Skin

Repairing and Restoring Environmentally Damaged Skin

Our mother’s gave us a lot of advice when we were younger like “Don’t lay out in the sun” or “Don’t smoke cigarettes” because the long term effects caused irreversible damage to our internal and external organs like sun spots, cancer and signs of early aging. So we listened (for the most part). But we live in an industrially advanced era where exposure to harmful pollutants and even the sun’s rays, despite our efforts to combat the exposure, is striping us of the natural beauty we were born with. Then add in the occasional vice like a day at the beach or extra cosmo and suddenly you’re at war with your skin!

But like modern day heroes, skincare scientists have trail blazed highly advanced methods to treat damaged skin, improve imperfections, reverse signs of aging and give you younger looking and acting skin.

At the Anushka Cosmedical Centre, we offer the most advanced methods to combat damaged skin from topical remedies to intensive restoring solutions. First you should identify what exactly you are in need of targeting. Indications of damaged skin include sunspots, rosacea, freckles, certain beauty marks and moles as well as tell-tale signs of aging like wrinkled or crepey lines and waxy skin.

Anushka’s Medical Director, Dr. Bonnie Marting, recommends a non-invasive laser treatment that will, in 1 sitting, dramatically reverse the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin. This is called the IPL Photorejuvenation Treatment ($350 Per Session) featuring the LimeLight® by Cutera. This versatile, state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light system can treat most skin types (types I through IV) to remove sun damage, age spots and vascular lesions to tighten and refine pores. Treatment areas include the face, face & neck, Décolleté, hands and arms. Series pricing available upon request.

For deeper restoration (clients requiring a more intense level of rejuvenation or wrinkle repair), Dr. Marting recommends the Pearl Treatment ($1,000 Per Treatment). Laser resurfacing has long been the gold standard treatment for uneven pigmentation and skin texture. The Pearl Laser will renew your skin’s surface with quick, visible results. Pearl treats fine lines on the face and neck, uneven skin texture and light and dark spots caused by sun damage. During a Pearl treatment, the top layer of the skin is treated with pulses of light. A portion of the epidermis (skin surface) is gently removed and a natural protective dressing is formed on the skin’s surface. Most patients feel a series of brief pinches during the treatments. After 3-4 days, the protective dressing peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath. The Pearl laser replaces the entire top sun-damaged layer of the skin with new healthy skin. Simultaneously, it sends heat to deeper layers of the skin stimulating new collagen growth, filling out and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. New collagen growth continues for 4-6 weeks post-treatment. The combination of new skin and decreased wrinkles results in a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Dr. Marting recommends a topical regimen following any of these treatments to maintain restored skin. First, she recommends using SkinMedica’s Lytera, a skin brightening and lightening treatment that helps diminish the appearance of dark spots and restores the radiance of your skin ($125 for 2 oz.).

It’s important to note that renewing your skin cells with the right topical regimen will help maintain skin’s youth because the production of new cell growth helps maintain the skin’s collagen and replaces dead surface cells. Retinol achieves this perfectly. Dr. Marting recommends Retinol Complex from SkinMedica ($90 1oz.) which will turn over skin cells and promote your skin’s youthful lifespan.

Finally, the most important element to add to your skincare regimen, especially after an IPL or Pearl treatment to maintain your results, is a high-performing SPF. We recommend TiZO2 Age Defying Fusion 40 SPF ($38.50 1.5oz) broad spectrum.

Preventing sun exposure and high levels of pollution from entering your body to begin with will help keep your skin looking and feeling youthful much longer than unprotected skin. So like mom said, start taking care of your skin health from a young age. You’ll really appreciate it in the years to come. Also, if you do receive a skin treatment, the new surface cells are extremely vulnerable to being damaged again, and to the same degree as before if the skin is not protected by a clinically proven SPF. So for those of us who have opted for revitalizing treatments, make sure to protect yourself properly after any skin renewing treatment by consulting your aesthetician.

A new summer hair style in 2019

2. Wavy Lob Summer Hairstyle

Lobs are nothing new, but if it seems like even the celebs are going for even shorter this year its because they most definitely are. Our clients at Anushka Spa & Salon have been asking for shorter and bolder hair in 2019. Many of our clients are seeking a heavier more blunt look this spring. Lobs can be super messy but still super trendy.

The lob is a universally flattering look that can be work in so many different ways. But to keep your look up with the latest hairstyling trends this spring and summer wear your lob loose and wavy.

This is a flattering look that can be worn dressed up or dressed down. This is a must have summer hairstyle of 2019!

3. Romantic Details

If you are more of an updo girl, then go ahead and leave those front pieces down for something a little less formal and a more effortless look. Pair this look with your favorite headband to add an element of romantic polished perfection.

4. High Pony Summer Hairstyle

Go ahead and take that high pony a little high in the high heat. For those of you with long luscious locks, gather your hair at the crown of your head in a tight slicked back hair-up ponytail. This look will allow you to smooth out your face a bit as we all love those benefits.

5. Loose Waves

Loose waves this spring and summer add the best benefits with giving your hair texture a little added oomph. Take a break in the morning by simply adding a few loose curls. Not too many just a few to frame your face. Get this look by using a large curling iron and taking larger sections to prevent ringlet curls.

6. Wet Hair Don't Care

We never would have imagined just how popular the wet hair, don’t care look would be in 2019. Get this loved look by slathering on as much hair oil or styling cream you want on your dry hair.

This look is meant to look wet, not be wet. It’s not the same as just hopping out of the shower and hitting the road. By adding your favorite product, you can keep your hair sleek and in with the summer style without the fear of humidity fuzz.

7. Top Bun

A top bun is a perfect look for when it is just way too hot to deal with more added heat from your curling iron or flat iron.

This is our stylist’s go-to look at the salon for a quick put together look without any effort. Add a little spray after you twist your locks into a cute little top knot and you’re out the door.

Grab your favorite hair accessories to add a little sophistication to your top bun.

8. Sleek N' Shine

One of the worst parts about the summer heat is your hair sticking to your face. When the temperatures are up, why not bring your hair back from your face.

Slick your hair back away from your face with a center-parted half-up style for something a little less basic than your average ponytail. We love this look.

Add a few curls to your hair that is left down to add a little room for the air to sweep through on your neck. For those of you with short hair, feel free to reach into your abundance of bobby pins to keep your face-framing pieces out of the way.

9. Straightened Out Summer Hairstyle

The biggest trick to keeping your hair pin straight in the spring and summer humidity is, of course, your favorite flat iron and a quality anti-frizz spray!

Our go-to anti-frizz spray is Discipline Anti-Frizz Smoothing Spray by Kérastase. You can pick up this great spray in our salon located in West Palm Beach, FL!
