7 Different Curly Hair Styles For Any Hair Type

As anyone with this type of hair knows, finding the best curly hair styles for curly hair that are both flattering and practical isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it’s a case of needing all of your hair up and out of your face for working or exercising. Other days, you might be styling your hair just for fun or for a special occasion such as a birthday dinner or a wedding.

No matter the reason you’re struggling for curly hairstyle ideas, we’re here to help you find the best and most beautiful curly hair looks that will suit your locks no matter their length or texture.

Best Hairstyle For Short Curly Hair

From classic bob-cut hairstyles to the ever-fashionable lob, short curly hair is undeniably beautiful. And, if you’re wondering how to style short curly hair for the prettiest look imaginable, we can help.

Everyday Hairstyles

It might be tried and tested, but that’s kind of the reason we love it so much. Yes, we’re talking about the classic half-up half-down do. And, whilst this style works for pretty much any hair length, this is our go-to everyday hairstyle for short curly hair for so many reasons.

Firstly, it looks super cute! Nothing beats the volume and bounce of your shorter curls mixed with the height of the half-up section. Not to mention, it’s incredibly practical and takes literally a minute to create.

How To:

To start, simply separate the desired section of hair to be tied up. If you’re not sure, a good rule of thumb is always to start near the ears and to work diagonally upwards, towards the back of your head.

Next, simply use your fingertips to pull the hair into place. Stay away from brushes and combs here. This will make curly hair frizz out and look messy rather than nonchalantly styled which is what we’re going for!

Finally, secure the hair in place with a clear elastic or a decorative clip depending on your mood and where you’re going. Pull a few small pieces loose at the front to frame your face or leave it all back for a fresh, more polished look.

Special Occasion Hairstyles

Since your hair is short enough to be left all the way down, sliding in a decorative clip or barrette just above one ear is an incredibly quick, not to mention seriously chic, way to style your locks for an evening out.

This style will look beautiful with everything from jeans, a silk top, and heels, to evening gowns. That means it’s perfect for any dressy occasion from weddings to red carpet events.

How To:

We recommend flipping your curls over to one side to create this look. Then, once you have that added volume, slide the clip into the side with the least amount of hair, just above the ear. That’s literally it!

A super chic style you can wear again and again, yet, it can be different each time. Simply mix up the color, texture, or finish of your clip choosing one that compliments your outfit each time you wear it.

Best Hairstyle for Medium Length Curly Hair

Perhaps you’re growing it out, or maybe it’s finally reached your desired length. You might even be considering cutting it shorter! Regardless, we can teach you the most amazing styles that will have you head over heels for those gorgeous, medium lengths of yours.

These styles will be particularly ideal for those with occupations that require a lot of attention, and therefore stress, towards the hair. Models, singers, actors, stylists, pay attention!

Everyday Hairstyles

Though mid-length hair is the holy grail when it comes to styling options (not too long, not too short), there is one in particular that we find ourselves coming back to time and time again. Have you guessed it yet? Hands up those who said sky-high ponytail!

Medium-length curly hair is so perfect for this look as it’s long enough that it all goes up without pieces constantly falling out and getting in your eyes whilst you’re working. Yet, it’s not so long your need to worry about it falling over your shoulders all day.

How To:

Now, we know we said most of the styles on this list would be simple to create, but this one truly couldn’t be easier. To style your curly locks into a sky-high ponytail, simply flip your head over, then gather all of the hair together with your fingers at the desired height.

Once you have it all, flip your head back over and tie it all together with a clear elastic or a decorative band or scrunchie as you wish. As you’ll see, the natural volume and shape of your curls add the most beautiful shape to this style in a way that straight and wavy hair just doesn’t!

Mid-Length Hairstyles for Frequent Stylers

As you know, we think medium-length hair suits literally everybody. What’s more, it’s wonderfully versatile. Short enough in warmer weather to keep you cool yet you can also style it into an up-do with ease at a moment’s notice.

That said, if your job, or even your busy social life, means you’re styling your hair every single day, finding new looks that won’t put excessive stress on your hair but still look great can be taxing. Enter, decorative headbands.

How To:

Of course, this one doesn’t involve a whole lot of ‘styling’. That said, it is one of the prettiest and kindest-to-curly-hair looks we know… and love!

Simply make sure your hair is clean and properly conditioned so it looks as healthy and shiny as possible when it’s all down. Then, choose a headband that suits your day/evening plans. Opt for neutral colors and organic materials during the daytime then switch those out for dressier styles with embroidery or adornments for your evening plans.

Best Hairstyle for Long Curly Hair

We adore curly hair at every possible length, and, long curly hair whether it’s super thick or on the finer side is absolutely no different!

From laid-back daytime looks to more elaborate and elegant evening ones, we have you covered with these different curly hairstyles for long hair on every occasion.

Everyday Hairstyles
One of the best curly hairstyles to keep our long hair up and out of our eyes has to be a high bun. We love how laid-back yet eternally stylish this style is and how it keeps our curls safe and intact all day long.

How To:

As with the sky-high ponytail, steer clear of brushing the curls up into this style to avoid frizz! Simply use your fingers to gather all of your curls up and onto the top of your head. Then, if the volume/thickness of your hair requires it, use a clear elastic to secure it into a ponytail.

Finally, lightly twist the ponytail into a bun shape and secure it. We love to use silk scrunchies here so they don’t destroy our curls and instead keep them soft and intact when we take our hair down.

Special Occasion Styles

Special occasion on the calendar? We recommend letting the length of your long hair truly shine with a down-do. After all, isn’t that why we grow it?!

How To

To create this special occasion/evening look, part your hair down the middle getting the parting as straight as possible. This will give your locks an elegant, put-together edge rather than a laid-back, boho vibe.

Once this is done, use a slide on each side of your hair to pull back the front very slightly. Pro tip: use the middle of your eyebrows as a guide for where to place the clips!

Finish off with a few pumps of nourishing hair oil or serum to make sure your lengths look their shiny best.

Recommended Hair Care Routines for Curly Hair

Want to make sure your curls are in the best condition ever before styling? No problem! Simply follow our curly hair care checklist…

  1. Opt for a shampoo that conditions hair deeply. Curly hair needs extra moisture wherever we can get it
  2. Don’t shampoo too often. Even the most moisturizing shampoos can strip your hair of natural oils. So, choose your wash days wisely. We recommend washing curly hair no more than twice a week maximum.
  3. Rinse with cold water. If you can’t stand the cold, opt for lukewarm water when rinsing as hot temperatures will also strip your hair of natural oils leaving it dry and frizzy.
  4. Use a leave-in conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends of your curly hair. Shower conditioners are perfectly fine, however, a good leave-in formula will keep those tresses even more moisturized leading to curls that are tame and glossy right after application.
  5. Don’t brush your curls! If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times. Bristle brushes are the enemy of bouncy, voluminous curls. Instead, use your fingers and a wide-tooth comb to separate your locks. This will be much kinder to your tresses and will keep those glorious curls intact too.

Which curly hair styles will you opt for? Will it be a cute short half-up half-down style for your everyday plans or does a chic center-parted down-do speak more to your style? Whichever you choose, we here at the Anushka spa and salon are confident that you, and those fabulous curls of yours, will look absolutely stunning!
