Let’s Talk About The Wonder Of Dry Brushing For Cellulite!

Dry Brushing For Cellulite Differences for different women

Now, let’s be clear, everyone, and we mean everyone, has experience with cellulite. Whilst it’s true that some may be lucky enough to see only minimal areas developing whilst others have more, it’s important to understand that it’s totally natural for everyone and never something to be concerned or embarrassed about. All that said, we also understand that whilst it’s natural and you’re not alone in having it, we don’t always love how it looks and therefore look to understand and learn about ways in which we can improve its texture and feel our most confident selves!

If this sounds like you, dry brushing should be top of your list of techniques to learn about! It couldn’t be a simpler or more cost-effective treatment and the results are truly incredible. Especially for how quick and easy it is to do for yourself at home.

Is Dry Brushing Suitable For Sensitive Skin?

Those who were into products containing microbeads may be noticing the effects of their absence now that they’ve been banned in wash away products. You may also be noticing that natural exfoliating substitutes such as salt, coffee, and sugar are less than kind to your sensitive skin and can easily cause flare-ups. If so, dry brushing is most certainly a great idea for you! As long as you choose a natural bristle brush, you should have no problems in terms of a reaction to this treatment. After all, there are no ingredients or chemicals in contact with your skin to irritate it, plus you can choose for yourself how much pressure to apply!

How Do I Dry Brush At Home?

Many like to use their dry brush in circular motions as it covers a larger area at once and makes the process seem much quicker and simpler. Whilst this can be an effective way to ensure you’re not missing any skin areas, we actually prefer the method that starts low and moves the brush in an upward motion towards the heart. Why do we do this? It’s simple really! Let’s say for example you’re focusing on your leg, starting at the foot, and sweeping upwards replicates the motion of blood flow which will encourage healthy circulation and even aid lymphatic drainage. In turn, this action will be lessening signs of cellulite and smoothing out any bumpy areas.

So, start low and work your way upwards in sweeping streaks towards the heart! Start from the foot and work towards the knee and from the knee up to the thigh. Then concentrate on creating the same motion for your arms, stomach, and back, always sweeping towards the heart. Spend around 5-10 minutes to dry brush the whole body and make sure you’re applying only light pressure. This will ensure you’re not damaging the skin but are encouraging gentle exfoliation.

When And How Often Should I Dry Brush?

Firstly, though you can’t really see it, as you exfoliate with your dry brush you’ll be removing dead skin cells. Therefore, we always recommend dry brushing before you jump in the shower so you can wash any dry flakes away. Secondly, we recommend dry brushing 2-3 times per week leaving a day at least in between. This will be enough to upkeep the encouragement of lymphatic drainage, healthy blood flow, and soft skin without aggravating the skin or causing it to become sensitive and overworked. Spend about 5 minutes brushing your skin to ensure you cover your entire body and can take your time over each area. Spending too long may, again, irritate and cause the skin to become sore or feel over brushed.

Will It Help My Skin Absorb Moisture More Easily?

Yes! As you exfoliate away the dead skin cells on your body, you’re also priming it to absorb moisture much more easily. Therefore all of those expensive creams, lotions, and oils you’ve been paying out for will actually be able to work their magic! If you’re simply layering them on top of dry or dead skin they’re not able to absorb into your skin and are therefore wasted. So, make sure you start with a priming body brush before you apply them next time. Put those ingredients to good use!

Should I Treat My Skin After Dry Brushing?

Dry Brushing

Once you’ve dry brushed your entire body and washed away any dead or dry skin cells in the shower, be sure to treat your skin to a hydrating cream, lotion, or oil. This will not only soothe the skin post exfoliation but will also work to smooth its appearance and reduce the look of cellulite!

We recommend the Body Complex treatment by iS Clinical for this. It’s an all-over body treatment that’s rich in antioxidants, natural acids, retinol, and essential vitamins. It’s also highly soothing and hydrating making it the ideal post-exfoliation replenishment for your skin.

Another cream we adore here at the Anushka Spa & Salon is the Daily Body Lotion BS SPF 15 by Glytone. This daily lotion is a 3-in-1 that gently exfoliates, hydrates, and protects your skin using a unique combination of Glycolic Acid, Shea Butter, and SPF.

If you really want to step up your anti-cellulite game, even more, opt instead for Glytone’s Slim Design Cellulite Day Cream. It’ll really make the most of that dry brushing with its nourishing ingredients which also work to reduce the appearance of unwanted dimples and bumps on the skin!
