Tips To Grow Long Healthy Hair

There are so many misconceptions about growing long, healthy hair from only cutting your hair once a year to excessive amounts of Biotin. But truth be told, the secret to growing long healthy hair is a smart hair care routine.

For some women, growing gorgeous long locks just happens naturally but for the rest of us, changing up our daily hair care routine is necessary to achieve the same results.

Our stylists at Anushka Spa & Salon located in West Palm Beach, Fl have seen gorgeous hair results from slight changes such as using a different hairbrush to sleeping on a silk pillowcase, yes, we know how silly that sounds.

But we wanted to give you an easy step by step process to achieving long, lustrous locks!

Check out our Anushka Professional Hair Care Tips for all hair types to help guide you in your long locks journey!

1. Get frequent trims — yes, really

While this idea may seem completely counterintuitive, our stylists have been professionally trained on the makeup of hair care and frequent trims are a must if you want your locks not only long but healthy. No one likes stringy, damaged hair, even if it’s long. While frequent trims won’t actually make your hair grow faster, it will get rid of the split ends that cause your hair to break off in time.

Our master hairstylists are all in agreement that eliminating the breakage gives your hair the appearance that it is growing faster. After all, split ends are what cause you to lose your length in the end, not to mention the shine, volume, and smoothness.

If you want to know exactly how long you should go between trims, ask your hairstylist at Anushka Salon during your next appointment. Your stylist can determine the number of split ends you tend to get based on your daily hair care routine and current hair health.

2. Resist the urge to go blonde

As gorgeous and trendy any shade of blonde is this year, we do not recommend going from a darker shade to a lighter shade if you are looking to grow out your hair. Each time you apply bleach to your hair cuticles, you are damaging the existing health of your hair and increasing your risk for split ends.

During your entire hair growth phase, you should limit the number of chemical treatments you put your hair through. If your hair is already a little dry from the constant color and chemicals, check out our blog on Hair Salon Treatments For Dry Hair!

3. Distribute your hair’s natural oils

We know how difficult it is to find the energy to brush your hair before but, if you go through your hair with a few quick strokes before hitting the hay, you can increase your hair’s health. We recommend using a boar bristle brush to evenly distribute your hair’s oils down the shaft and to the ends of your hair.

This simple step to your nightly routine will increase the circulation to your scalp resulting in a healthier scalp. Scalp health is important for maintaining the health of your hair.

4. Eat the right foods

Having beautiful, long hair isn’t just about the products you use on your hair but also what you are putting into your body. If you want to promote hair growth, you are going to want to begin feeding your hair from the inside out. To increase the proteins in your hair, up your protein intake by eating foods like fish, beans, nuts, and whole grains.

If you are like many women who experience constant hair shedding everywhere you look, this may be a sign that your diet is low on protein. GoodHousekeeping.com’s nutritionist Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN adds that foods high in protein as well as vitamins A, C, and E, minerals like zinc and iron, and omega-3 fatty acids can contribute to healthier hair.

5. Avoid heat styling tools

It’s time to put your hot tools away for a little while. If heat is a must, our stylists recommend at least taking the extra effort to protect your hair by using a heat protectant – otherwise, every time you reach for the hot tools you risk damaging your hair which can lead to breakage and frizz. 6. Skip The Daily Shampoo

We have all heard the testimonials from stylists, and women with great hair attributing their long hair to skipping the shampoo. But, do you know why it actually helps your hair?

Washing your hair with shampoo between two and three times a week will allow your natural oils to penetrate deep into your hair, allowing it to hydrate and revitalize itself. Kerastase offers a wide array of nurturing shampoos that are great for bringing the health back to your hair!

The constant everyday oils on your scalp will do wonders for your soon to be long hair. Check out Oribe’s Gold Lust Dry Shampoo for between shower hair refreshing.

7. Add A Vitamin To Your A.M. Routine

Many women have already discovered the benefits of adding a multivitamin into their daily routine to supplement any lacking in their diet. You are going to want to look for a multivitamin that is specifically labeled ‘For Hair, Skin, and Nails,” advises Dr. Fusco. “Those contain important vitamins like biotin and C and B vitamins that support hair health.” Bonus: You may get better skin in the process!

8. Finish Your Shower With a Cool Rinse

As relaxing as a super-steamy shower is, the truth is it’s terrible for your hair. Next time you go to take a shower and wash your hair, turn down the temperature a bit. Our stylists also recommend a cool rinse when you’re done to help seal the cuticle and strengthen your hair before styling it.”

9. Be Careful When You Brush Wet Hair

Your hair is super susceptible to breakage when it’s wet, but if you absolutely have to get out some stubborn knots, our stylists at Anushka hair salon in West Palm Beach, FL recommend using a brush that will go easy on your strands.

There is actually a technique to brushing your wet hair to help prevent breakage. Begin by gently brushing from the ends and gradually work your way up. And don’t just brush the top layer — brush the hair underneath as well. If traditional brushes aren’t for you, opt for a wide-toothed comb instead.

10. Stop Doing Trendy “Cleanses”

As tempting as those trendy cleanses maybe, diet companies selling the cleanses don’t have your hair’s best interest in mind. Those fad diets are terrible for the health of your hair.

The trendy cleanses actually deprive your body of the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. You won’t immediately notice the difference in your hair but approximately a week after you finish your cleanse you may notice that your hair is lackluster, and you will experience slower hair growth. You may even experience some hair additional hair loss.

11. Sleep An A Silk Pillowcase

Yes, it is totally possible to get better hair in your sleep. All you need to do is switch out your pillowcase for a silk one instead. The silk will be much easier on your hair and will help to avoid tangles and breakage. It’s a proven fact that the less breakage your hair experiences, the longer and healthier your hair will be.

12. Pay Attention To Your Skin

So many products can make your hair appear shiny and you will be convinced the product is working for your hair, but the truth is told, it’s not always so simple. If the product makes your skin feel dry, stripped, heavy, waxy, sticky or greasy its essentially doing the same for your hair.

However, if your products make your skin feel soft, hydrated, silky and supple, you’re treating your hair to quality products. If your hair follicles are clogged and congested, there’s no way it can grow as efficiently.
