Everything About Lash Extensions

Our clients and staff at Anushka Spa & Salon located at Rosemary Square in West Palm Beach are absolutely head-over-heels for eyelash extensions. If you are like most women, you don’t have the time or patience to apply fake eyelashes every day. Most of us barely have enough time to use a simple eyelash curler. So, it’s no surprise that false lashes have taken over West Palm Beach.

If it’s your first time considering lash extensions, we understand you may be a little apprehensive and probably have a ton of questions. We have all seen the horror stories like Kristin Chenoweth’s allergic reaction leaving her with eyelid lips. That is why we asked our lash expert to debunk the myths about lash extensions for you!

What are the most common types of lash extensions?

The three most common types of lash extensions are silk, synthetic and mink. Don’t worry, you don’t have to choose just one at Anushka Spa & Salon, we custom design each set specifically for you. Even the sizes range from 6mm to 17mm for those looking for a lot more length and volume. Your lash expert at Anushka Spa & Salon will help you select your mix and length to help you achieve your luxe lash look. Once you’ve perfected your selection, your lashes will be applied one at a time using a specific formula of semi-permanent glue that won’t irritate your eyes or damage your natural eyelashes. If you have super sensitive skin, there are different formulas we can use, just let us know.

How long does it take to apply lash extensions?

Typically, a full set of eyelashes extensions in West Palm Beach takes about two hours for full application. Your lashes can be maintained year-round with touch-ups recommended between three and four weeks. A half set of lashes are still a great alternative to clumpy mascara to achieve a similarly dramatic effect by applying the half set as a filler to thicken natural lashes.

No two sets of natural lashes are ever the same, so depending on the current condition of your lashes, our lash experts are limited to certain lengths and thickness to ensure your lashes remain healthy. For instance, if your natural lashes are slightly shorter than most and a little on the thinner side, it is best to be reserved with your selection as dramatic lengths and volume won’t last long. It’s best to start off with a half-set for your first time if you aren’t sure. Remember, it’s always easier to add more than it is to remove lashes once they’re on!

What happens if glue gets in your eyes?

This question is all too common, and we totally understand your concern. But don’t worry, your eyes are shut the whole time your lashes are being applied so no glue should ever get into your eye. We ensure the glue our eyelash experts use it only the most top quality to ensure the safety of your eyes.

Additionally, we like to point out the importance of understanding the difference between an infection and allergic reactions. Our lash experts are licensed and experience to once again ensure an infection will not occur. But, an allergic reaction is still an allergic reaction, so as we said before, let us know if you have extra sensitive skin as we use a different glue for this purpose.

Can you go blind?

The answer to this question is simply no. Your lash expert is trained to apply the adhesive and lashes in a way that is completely harmless for your eyes. Your eyes will be closed throughout the entire process, even if you were to have an allergic reaction it will not affect your vision. The worst-case scenario is that you will need to visit your eye doctor to get specific eye drops to reduce inflammation.

What happens when you cry?

You should never experience burning or discomfort that causes your eyes to tear. If you begin to experience this sensation, this is a huge red flag and you should immediately let your lash expert know. The application process for false lashes should be a completely pain-free experience.

What are the pros and cons of wearing mink lashes?

No two people are the same in the type of look they hope to achieve with false lashes – some people choose to go with a dramatic look while others opt for a more natural feel. The benefits of mixing in a little mink into the mix is for a feathery look and overall lighter in general. Plus, they put a little less pressure on your natural lashes.

How often do you need to get lash extensions redone?

Our lash extensions at Anushka Spa & Salon in West Palm Beach typically last through a full natural lash cycle between six to eight weeks. Keep in mind that each person’s lashes grow at different rates, thus we suggest a little light maintenance every three to four weeks to be safe.

Do lash extensions fall out over a certain period of time?

Each eyelash extension is individually attached to a single eyelash, so naturally they will fall out with the natural growth cycle of your lashes. We recommend getting a little lash touch up every three to four weeks to maintain your intended results.

If you’ve been to an inexperienced professional for lash extensions previously, you know they apply a single synthetic lash to three or four natural lashes which causes clumping as well as causes your natural lashes to break or fall out. If you pick or try to pull out the lashes yourself, which is a big no-no your natural lashes may also fall out. If you avoid these two problems, your natural lashes should stay intact as well as your false lashes.

Can you shower or swim right away? Are there products you should absolutely avoid?

You should try to avoid direct water contact with your lashes for at least 12 to 24 hours whether it be for application or touch-ups. Water tends to weaken the adhesive prior to it setting which may cause your luxe lashes to fall off.

Depending on the type of glue used for your lashes, oil-based products as well as makeup removers around the eye should be avoided and is not recommended. We also do not recommend using water-proof mascara on your eyelash extensions as it is difficult to remove and can potentially pull off your lashes prematurely.

Is it okay to also wear mascara?

If you plan on wearing a bit of mascara with your lash extensions, avoid water proof mascara. In addition, stick to the tips of your lash extensions and use a light hand. Applying mascara from root to tip with lash extensions will give you’re a clumpy look that no one wants. Applying mascara just to the tips will give your eyes the added pop without all the clump.

Will your natural lashes get harmed or damaged?

This myth has officially been busted. Lash extensions should never ruin your own lashes. If a professionally trained licensed stylist with experience applies your lashes correctly, they are safe and will not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure to avoid rubbing your eyes or tugging on the lash extensions as this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes.
