Facial Artistry: The Magic of the Mini Facelift

Every single day, nearly invisible changes are happening under the surface of our skin that don’t seem to appear clear when looking back in the mirror, until one day, they do. Suddenly, you notice a droop here, a wrinkle there, and shockingly, your thoughts go to, ”Is it time for a facelift?” While this rejuvenating procedure is the gold-standard to rewind the clock, it comes with a cost, necessary care, downtime and an outstanding practitioner. Luckily, today at our West Palm Beach medspa office, we have many options to safely and non-invasively deliver a mini facelift that provides remarkable rejuvenating results.

Skin First: Skin Health & Cellular Turnover

Nothing will age your skin like smoking and excessive exposure to the sun. The full spectrum radiation from the sun depletes your collagen and retards the ability for your skin to reproduce without DNA mutations. This is important not just for it’s aging implications, but is a high contributor to skin cancer.

Smoking not only implants toxins throughout all aspects of your body, but also decreases blood flow. Adequate blood flow is so necessary for the ability of the skin to replenish itself. This “atropy” that’s a byproduct of smoking leands to dull, gray skin and a littany of other issues.

My highest recommendation to restore and replenish skin is to use a retinoid (unless pregnant or nursing) to keep your skin reproducing more rapidly (cellular turnover) and increasing the thickness of your skin. There is an old myth that retinoids thin your skin. Good nows – they don’t! In fact, just the opposite is true. Using a medical-grade moisturizer with antioxidants and peptides will feed your skin to keep it healthy and nourished.

Replace and Lift: Volumizing Dermal Fillers

Now that we have the skin taken care of, gently replacing some of the volume and support that have been lost to time is the 2nd approach to rejuvenation. Cheeks, jawlines, and marionette lines can be revived with a bit of Restylane Contour or Juvéderm Voluma. These products artfully help these depressions look softer, happier, and younger with a little bit of dermal filler.

For those more difficult areas, such as jowls and the neck, specially placed PDO threads can strategically realign and lift sagging skin. These threads break down in the body while simultaneously producing new, tight, healthy collagen to maintain the effect of the treatment. The process is quick and comfortable due to the numbing of the area prior to placing the threads. This non-invasive “face lifting” procedure is one of the most advanced ways we can achieve a true “lifting” effect that both restores shape and actively (and naturally) de-ages from the inside through collagen production.

Those Lines and Wrinkles: Botox and Dysport to the rescue!

Lines can be softened and refined without the fear of “looking frozen”. Every muscle has a counter muscle and often we use one set of muscles excessively, due to habit. Temporary relaxation of some of those muscles achieves a soft, positive look. No one even needs to know!

How Does a Mini Facelift Work?

Now that you know a little bit more about mini facelifts, let’s take a closer look at PDO thread lifts in particular and how they work.

We have a whole post on PDO thread lifts here, and it includes this explanation of how they work:

“The PDO Thread Lift technique uses Novathreads, which are absorbable threads made of polydioxanone (PDO). Novathreads are 100 percent dissolvable and have been used in a multitude of surgical specialties for the last 50 years. These specialties range from cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, gynecological surgery as well as plastic surgery. Anushka’s Cosmedical Centre uses PDO Threads to tighten the skin by creating an inflammatory response, causing the production of new collagen. The inflammatory response triggered by the threads can also cause fibrosis, which tightens the tissue. The threads come in different thicknesses and lengths. Dr. Bonnie Marting D.N.P., ANRP, helps you choose the right size threads depending on what type of improvement you would like to have. When the threads are placed properly, patients will see an instantaneous lift of the loose facial skin and an overall improvement of the turgor and quality of the skin tissue.”

Mini Face Lift FAQs

Our mini facelift patients come to us with a variety of questions when they’re considering this option. So, next, we’ll go over those questions and their answers to provide you with the information you might be looking for.

How long does a mini facelift last?

One of the most common questions we get about mini facelifts is “how long do they last?” But, of course, the answer to this question will depend on the type of non-surgical facelift you’re getting.

Injectable fillers typically last for six months to a year. Botox typically lasts for three to six months. And PDO thread lifts typically last for one to two years.

Understandably, facelift results can vary from person to person and will depend on factors such as age, skin type, and lifestyle.

Are there any side effects?

Another common question we get involves potential side effects.

As with any medical procedure, there are risks and potential side effects associated with non-surgical facelifts. However, these risks and side effects are typically minor and temporary—especially compared to more invasive options.

Injectable fillers can cause bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site. Botox can cause bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site. And PDO thread lifts can cause bruising, swelling, and pain at the injection site.

Before you undergo the procedure, you must talk to your doctor about the risks and potential side effects of any non-surgical facelift.

How much does a mini facelift cost?

The cost of a non-surgical facelift will vary depending on the type of procedure you’re getting, the number of treatments you need, and the provider you use. Injectable fillers typically cost $500 to $1,000 per treatment. Botox typically costs $200 to $800 per treatment. And PDO thread lifts typically cost $1,500 to $3,000 per treatment.

What are the benefits of a mini facelift versus a surgical facelift?

There are a few key benefits of mini facelifts when compared to surgical facelifts.

  • First, mini facelifts are less expensive than surgical facelifts. This is because they don’t require anesthesia, operating room time, or a hospital stay.
  • Second, mini facelifts have fewer risks and side effects than surgical facelifts.
  • Third, mini facelifts require little to no downtime, while surgical facelifts typically require two to three weeks of recovery time.
