Lash Lifting: Everything You Should Consider

You’ve done everything you can to get the voluminous and curled lashes of your dreams. Whether it’s layering on mascara or spending countless times trying to use your lash curler to make your lashes stay lifted. Regardless of what you’ve done to get the perfect lashes, you’re likely here because you’ve heard about the incredible treatment called lash lifting.

Too much mascara can leave your lashes looking spidery. And even with plenty applied, you still might not get the beautiful curl you want. Lash lifting is a technique that helps your lashes to stay curled, appear longer, and avoid damage (like you might get with lash extensions). And there just so happens to be a thing or two you should know about before you look to book an appointment.

We put together this article to help you learn everything there is to know about lash lifting. Read to be a lash lifting pro?

What is a Lash Lift?

There’s no better place to start than with a good explanation of what a lash lift is! You can think of a lash lift as a perm for your eyelashes. The process uses chemicals to create a natural curl and lift to your lashes.

It’s common for the lashes to grow in different directions or to even grow down and straight out instead of up like you would like them to. A lash lift helps to create a lift in the lashes that is natural and helps to open the eye. The results truly are incredible!

What Happens During a Lash Lift?

Once you’ve booked your appointment, you’ll usually come in and start with a consultation. Your provider will ask you what type of lash style you are trying to achieve and then will choose a specific curling rod size to accomplish it.

They will then start the process by cleansing the eye area and placing the chosen silicone rods onto your eyelids. Once the rods are secure they will start to curl the lashes over the rod and attach them to it using an adhesive that will help set your lashes.

When they’ve completed this step and everything looks good they will use a lifting lotion that will help the lashes to form around the curling rod. Once that’s all set, a setting lotion will be applied to help set the lash shape.

You can usually expect the entire process to last somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes. A patch test can also be done to ensure you don’t react to the solutions poorly.

Types of Lash Lift

The process of the lash lift is relatively simple, but did you know there are different types of lash lifts (also known as curl options) that you can choose from? Here are some of them!

J-Curl

If you’re looking for a subtle lift then the J-curl is a great option. It’s a very small curl that’s mostly at the tip of the lashes and is hardly noticeable from the front.

B-Curl

The second more subtle option would be the B-curl. It is slightly more basic than your average eyelash curl but is also a bit more noticeable than the J-curl would be.

C-Curl

The most common curl we see is the C-curl. This one is more noticeable than the previous curls mentioned but also looks super natural.

D-Curl

You can think of a D-curl as a “dramatic curl” This one allows for quite a bit of lift and makes the lashes look more pronounced. The eyes end up looking extra bright because the curl is much tighter.

L+Curl

Last but not least the L+curl provides a straighter shape to the lash. In some cases, the lashes can point in a downward direction. However, this shape is the least curled of the options which means it won’t grow out nearly as quickly.

There’s a different curl option for just about every letter of the alphabet!

How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

The results of your lash lift are bound to vary. It’s a good idea to talk to your provider before you go ahead with your appointment. They’ll be able to tell you how long you can expect your lash lift to last based on your unique lashes and the type of curl you choose. It’s often dependent on how fast your lashes grow as the lash cycle is usually on the shorter side.

It’s generally known, however, that a lash lift will last somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks. You can extend the life of your lash lift by taking proper care of them.

Don’t be concerned if your lash lift lasts longer or shorter than someone else. Everyone is different!

How Much Does a Lash Lift Cost?

The truth is that lash lifts will have different costs depending on where you live and where you go. If you live in a bigger city, then lash lifting is generally more expensive than it would be in a smaller town that comes with lower living costs. Sometimes the reverse is true as smaller towns have fewer resources which means different places can cost more.

Someone more experienced will also generally cost more along with any extras such as volumizing treatments or tinting.

You can expect your lash lift to cost somewhere between $65 and $200, although the average price is usually somewhere around $100. The key is to ensure you’re going somewhere that will give you the best results.

Can You Fake a Lash Lift at Home?

You might have seen videos online where people show themselves doing their lash lift at home. While it might look easy enough to do, you should never attempt to do a lash lift at home.

The eyes are an incredibly delicate area and any wrong step could cause some serious damage. You shouldn’t think of your lashes as a DIY project. You should always seek out a professional who knows how to handle the chemicals properly. If you try to do it yourself at home, you’re not going to have great visibility around what you’re doing which can lead to mistakes. And trust us, the lashes and the eye area are not something you want to take your chances on!

Should You Get a Lash Lift?

While the lash lift treatment works great on most people, it’s not something that’s for everyone. If you’re someone who has sensitive eyes or doesn’t like their eye area being touched, then it might not be the best treatment for you.

The most ideal candidate will have strong and healthy lashes and will be someone who is looking to make their eyes look more open. They’re generally someone who’s looking for the convenience of already curled lashes.

Anyone getting a lash lift should also be aware of the results it provides, especially in comparison lash extensions. The results are a lot more natural and will work to enhance the lashes they already have.
