What Is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® consists of microscopic particles of lactic acid. These particles are sharp and therefore make your body feel like it is foreign. The result? Your body wants to cover the particles with collagen production. The lactic acid particles, however, are biocompatible and biodegradable. The body naturally breaks them down and they are eliminated as carbon dioxide, glucose, and water. The stimulation of the collagen, however, can last several months – but the greatest stimulation is experienced in the first three months.
What Can I Expect from My Sculptra® Treatment?
It often takes two to three treatment sessions of Sculptra® to achieve the desired results, but after the first four weeks, the results begin to become evident. You look better and better each and every day. Because the results are gradual, no one else will realize that you have had anything done, just that you are looking amazing! This is another of the many marked benefits of this non-invasive anti-aging treatment when compared to a surgical facelift.
How Often Should I Get Sculptra®?
The treatments are typically spaced about 2 months apart. This allows for the accurate placement of the Sculptra® product, based on how well the collagen has grown. It is not unheard of, however, to repeat the treatment in only 4-6 weeks.
After each injection session, the patient must massage the areas where Sculptra® was placed. This is because as the sterile water is absorbed, the particles should be distributed evenly. The massage facilitates this.
Who is a Candidate for Sculptra®?
Nearly everyone is a candidate for Sculptra. There have been great results even with patients in their 80s! One caveat is that smokers don’t grow collagen as well as non-smokers. So, time to quit! Your youth demands it.
