A woman wearing a permanent makeup

Permanent makeup, or cosmetic tattooing, is a fast-growing part of the health and beauty industry. From Rio to LA., N.Y. & now at Anushka Spa & Salon Cosmedical Center, Marta Lucia, known as the “Renior” of permanent makeup by international magazine editors and celebs, is defefining the art of permanent makeup. At Anushka Spa & Salon, you can achieve the all-day, every-day look you crave without any effort!

Marta has spent nearly 2 decades perfecting the art and science of permanent makeup application. She is triple board certified as an expert in micropigmentation, as a makeup artist and makeup instructor!

For faint to no eyebrows you can put away your eye pencils for years with the help of permanent makeup. Tired of the “lipstick bleed”, and trying to give definition to your lip line? You can kiss lip scars and lipstick good-bye with a colored lip tattoo.

Marta Lucia’s eye combined with her technical training and gifted precision, has caught the attention of an international clientele. Celebrities and socialites alike have flown her around the world for her award winning natural and dazzling eyebrows and pinpoint eyeliner technique.

Permanent makeup sometimes gets a bad rap, blame that on your mom’s weird friend with the block-shaped tattoo eyebrows. Permanent makeup has taken on the method of effortless natural beauty!

The word “permanent” maybe a bit misleading. The term “semi-permanent” would be more accurate as the makeup does fade over time and is not a tattoo.

How Permanent Makeup Is Done

You won’t see tattoo ink at Anushka Spa & Salon – Marta Lucia uses high-quality pigments, which are shade matched to be an exact reflection of the hairs on your eyebrows and lashes, or the shade of pink on your lips. Marta works with a variety of needles, ranging from a single needle to multi-prong needles depending on the desired effect. “My artist’s training enables me to custom blend up to 6 color pigments for a perfectly shaded brow without those cool undertones that often show up as the color begins to fade.”

Pigment is applied to the desired location using a needle that penetrates your skin. This process is called micropigmentation. Each procedure takes between 30 and 120 minutes and uses a local anesthetic to numb the area. Just like any tattoo, initially the color will appear darker or brighter, and will fade over time. The area may be swollen for anywhere from 2-5 days and will crust over before healing.

Getting Permanent Makeup

Marta begins each procedure with a consultation where she uses traditional makeup to show exactly what the end result will look like. Marta at Anushka Spa & Salon will begin the process by applying a test patch on your skin to check whether you have an allergic reaction to the pigment that will be used.

After that, based on advice and suggestions form the makeup artist, you will choose the color. Marta will use a sterile surgical pen to sketch the area to be tattooed. She will then put an anesthetic gel on your skin.

Your world-renowned makeup artist will be using a hollow, vibrating needle to apply the pigment into the top layer of the skin. As the needle penetrates the skin, a droplet of pigment is released into the whole the needle makes. This may cause a slight stinging sensation.

Upon completion of the procedure Marta will have you exam the area for any additional coverage.

As previously stated, the color will likely look dark and shiny for approximately three weeks until the color fades to the permanent shade.

Do not be alarmed if the area is slightly swollen and red, this is typical for the procedure. If you experience this, you can use cold compresses to reduce swelling as well as Acquaphor to retain moisture. You should avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process. If you do need to be in direct sunlight, it is recommended that you use sunscreens that block the harmful UV A and B rays to avoid post inflammatory color changes.

Complications are rare but can include infection or allergic reactions to the tattoo dye.

Beautiful Benefits

The most obvious benefit to cosmetically permanent makeup is waking up every day with your “face on”. You can swim, exercise, shower and wake up still looking as put together as ever and ready to go! Permanent make up is ideal for the woman who is constantly on the go.

Permanent makeup may be for you if:

Eyebrows

Don’t confuse this technique with microblading. Microblading is done with a blade that cuts into the skin, where one session can require over 100 tiny cuts. Microblading can cause scar tissue to build up over a period of time resulting in the loss of your eyebrows completely.

With semi-permanent brows, Marta Lucia at Anushka Spa & Salon uses what we call a “hair stroke technique” by needling in individual hairs to create a natural-looking full shape. Working with a single needle that has three to four individual needles in a row help to create crisp, beautiful hair strokes. Often times this technique is also called “micro-stroke” technique.

“My artist’s training enables me to custom blend up to 6 color pigments for a perfectly shaded brow without those cool undertones that often show up as the color begins to fade.”

Eyes

Permanent eyeliner helps to keep the elasticity of your eyes while giving you the look you’ve always dreamed of. When you apply eyeliner makeup it’s almost impossible to avoid pulling and stretching of the skin. Over time, due to the fact that your eyes have very thin skin, it will have trouble bouncing back. The skin starts to look uneven and becomes more difficult to achieve the smudge free look you once had.

Lips

As we age, some women will begin losing pigment around their lips. The bubbly pink begins to fade away. To ensure a natural look, Marta will match the natural pink on the inside portion of your bottom lip. Essentially, we are repigmenting the lips. The lips will possibly even look slightly larger just by enhancing the color. Marta will trace your vermillion border, then the rest of the lips with the chose shade of pink. The pink will be within a shade or two darker than your natural hue. The healing time for permanent makeup on the lips takes approximately a week. Although there may be some swelling, most clients love the effect and are a little sad to see the plumpness fade.

Botched Permanent Makeup Correction

The “art of correction” has won Marta devoted clients and worldwide acclaim. She is a master of “The Fix”. Whether it’s a facial flaw, or a botched job by someone less skilled, she can correct and transform. “I am so blessed to have so many fans. When my clients wake up more beautiful, with no thoughts of tedious a makeup regiment head, I have done my job.” From permanent lip and eye liner to full lips and eyebrows, Marta tailors each application to suit the client’s features, correcting aesthetic flaws and enhancing her natural beauty.

Marta has worked closely with South Mercy and Baptist Hospitals, Marta has been lending her talents for years to restorative aesthetics.

After The Appointment

Though there isn’t much downtime after permanent makeup, you can expect slight swelling and redness. Nothing to be alarmed about. While the color may appear darker temporarily, Marta has had 2 decades of experience to ensure your colors are perfect for you. The color will fade by typically a few shades within five to seven days and the effect should soften by 50%.

Permanent makeup typically lasts between 3-5 years. With that being said, talk to Marta about any anti-aging serums and moisturizers you are using to verify they will not be harmful to your makeup. Products with retinol, vitamin C, or hydroquinone can shorten the life of permanent makeup. If your current products are a concern, our very own Marta Lucia at Anushka Spa & Salon can send you home with products we carry to ensure the life of your makeup.
