Why Go To A Hair Salon When You Can DIY Color

Hair Salon Color Vs. DIY Color

Trust us when we say that every girl has a moment where she decides to color her hair. Our stylists at Anushka Spa & Salon have heard this story over and over again. “I saw it in Instagram and thought it looked easy” or “The Pinterest article gave step by step instruction, I don’t know what happened”.

When it comes to DIY hair color, there are certain lines you shouldn’t cross. While there are a ton of things you can do at home, coloring your hair isn’t one of them. And yet, we still see dozens of clients at the salon for DIY color correction.

Your hair makes a huge impression, it’s one of the first things people will notice. And you definitely don’t want their attention for the wrong reasons. If you’re considering a little DIY color, you’ve come to the right place. Anushka Spa & Salon is here to talk you out of listening to those cute YouTube videos saying you can DIY.

If you’re thinking you’re saving money by doing your color at home, chances are, you’ll spend more on a color correction than you would have if you just came to Anushka Salon in the first place. Plus, you won’t have to buy new towels that are probably covered with hair dye.

Our Anushka DIY guide below will give you a few helpful tips on color options you can try at home and a few you should leave to the professionals.

Treatment for your hair to lightrning your hair

Rule #1 – Lightening Your Hair

If you are looking to lighten your hair more than a few shades, we promise you from experience, you’ll regret not going to the salon. Drugstore dyes are not formulated to lighten your hair very much, if even at all.

You will need to buy both bleach and dye from a beauty supply store, and you won’t want to forget the toner. Warning: this is going to be both messy and risky business. Bleach is no joke. If you don’t know what you are doing, you will likely cause damage to your hair that is most likely irreversible. Improper use of professional bleaching products can cause hair or scalp burns.

If you are serious about lightening your hair, seek help from our professionals at a hair salon. It will be well worth the extra money. Plus, it could save you from potential tears and utter disappointment that often accompanies DIY hair lightening.

Nush tip: Save your hair and your tears, we recommend seeking professional advice and going to a salon for a lighter look.

Rule #2 – Balayage

Balayage is for professional hair artists. This technique is often considered hair painting and best achieved by a professional with years of training.

It’s not as easy as you’d think by watching all of those DIY videos. We have had a ton of clients come into Anushka Hair Salon with a straight line across their hair from the bleach. It is super difficult without 360 vision to achieve the look you’re going for. This goes for highlights too. You don’t want to end up with a brassy streaky mess.

Nush tip: Don’t attempt this one at home! Definitely book an appointment with your favorite colorist at Anushka Spa & Salon to ensure best results.

Rule #3 – Toning

Based on expert opinion, there are certain types of toning that can be done at home to help you maintain your salon color longer.

For blondes, our stylists at Anushka Hair Salon recommend BLOND ABSOLU Kérastase Bain Ultra-Violet Purple Shampoo. You can tame the brassiness of your blonde while bringing back your cool-toned blonde.

For our brunettes, we recommend toning with blue shampoo all the way. These toning recommendations are based on the color wheel, but we don’t have to get into all of that right now. For more go to products for your hair type check out our expert top products review here!

Our stylists are just trying to get across that a tinted shampoo can help with mild color correction. It may take a few sessions to truly get the tint you are looking for.

We’ve heard that if you have a green tint to your blonde locks, you can try red Kool-Aid or even ketchup but we haven’t tried it so we can’t necessarily recommend it. So, if your hair falls into this category we recommend seeking the help of a professional immediately.

Our tip: Start with a toning shampoo. If you still aren’t happy with the results book an appointment at the salon and have the professionals fix the mistake with our amazing summer color service specials!

If at this point you’ve still considered coloring your hair at home with a DIY technique with box color, Anushka Spa & Salon stylists will be patiently waiting for your color correction call. Our stylists are ready and willing to fix your color mishaps. Or, if our Nush Tips have steered you away from DIY color, give us a call at 561.820.0500 to book your style and color service today!
