Options For Curly Hairstyles
When it comes to curly hair looks, the styles you can achieve often depend on the length of your hair. Here are a few of our favorite curly haircut examples to choose from depending on the length you want to achieve.
Short Curly Hair
Looking for a quick way to instantly refresh your curly hair? Why not go for the chop?! Some of our absolute favorite haircuts for summer 2021 are super-cute, short, curly looks and we know you’ll adore them too. Here’s our shortlist…
- Lobs (long bobs)
- Parisian inspired bobs (with or without bangs)
- Curly pixie crops
Every one of these short curly hairstyles is perfect for ladies with natural curls to maintain themselves at home between salon visits. Plus, they’ll keep you feeling cool and looking amazing all spring and summer long. And don’t worry, these styles totally work in colder weather too.
Medium-Length Curly Hair
Ladies who either don’t feel they suit short hair or don’t want super-long lengths to contend with will be best suited to medium-length cuts. It’s a great way to enjoy the full bounce and potential of your curly lengths without excessive length, plus, it’s no so short you have a hard time sweeping it all into an updo with ease. Our top recommendations include…
- A one-length cut that stops just past the shoulders
- A layered, mid-length cut
- Short to medium layered hair with bangs (yes, bangs work beautifully for curly hair!)
Long Curly Hair
If you just can’t part with those romantic, long curly lengths, we don’t blame you. Cascading spiral locks look timelessly beautiful and are so versatile when it comes to styling. That doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with longer curly hair cuts, however. These are just a few of the long curly styles we love and will always recommend.
- Side parted long curly hair with long layers
- Long curly hair with short, bouncy, playful layers
- Center parted long curly hair with long layers
Ideas for Hairstyles with Curly Hair
- Elegant Updo for Natural Curly Hair
One of our favorite, and arguably one of the chicest hair ideas for curly hair at evening events is an elegant high bun. This style works so beautifully as, not only does naturally curly hair provide a great amount of volume and texture both against your head and in the bun itself, you can also pull a few already curled pieces free at the front to add dimension and draw attention to your facial features. One of the most beautifully simple yet unbeatable ways to style curly hair.
- Medium Curly Side Parted Hairstyle
We know we say it about a lot of styles, however, this has to be one of our absolute favorite curly hairstyles for women! Don’t get us wrong, we adore center-parted curly hairstyles for women. Yet, when you flip curly hair over into a side part, you instantly create an unbeatable amount of volume that looks instantly red-carpet worthy.
- Pretty Curly Black Bob with Side Bangs
Calling all admirers of Parisian style, this has to be one of 2021’s hottest hair ideas for curly hair. Made famous by Instagram models and celebrities alike, we’ve been swooning over this undeniably chic curly cut for some time now. We especially recommend this for ladies with simple, yet classic closets who can’t resist a slick of red lipstick to emphasize the color and curl of their bob.
- Long U Cut for Curly Hair
Make the most of your beautiful curls with a long U cut. Not only will it show off your curls in all of their lengthy glory, but it’ll also add shape to your style being longer at the back and shorter at the front. It’s as perfect for creating a multitude of styles as it is for wearing it all down creating the maximum curl effect.
- Medium Length Curly Layered Hairstyle
Adding layers to medium-length (or long) curly hair is the perfect way to add lift and bounce to longer curls. As you’re more than likely aware, the longer your curly hair gets the more the curls start to straighten out as the weight naturally pulls them down. Adding a few shorter layers is the ideal way to keep your length whilst refreshing your curls and re-newing that volume you once knew and loved!
- Bob Hairstyle for Curly Hair
We’re not sure any short hairstyles for curly hair can look or feel chicer than this. Wear this style loose, style it back into a cute ponytail at the nape of your neck, or, add a simple barrette at the side for an elegant evening look.
- Mid-Length Curly Hairstyle with Curly Bangs
This curly cut is the answer to the question, how to style curly hair that looks effortlessly romantic. Curly bangs might seem unmanageable, we promise, they’re not. In fact, because they’re the section of your hair that receives the most attention in terms of regular cuts, you’ll often find they’re the easiest and prettiest part of your hair to maintain!
- The Curly Lob
Why do we love lob hair cuts so much? They suit literally everyone. Not only that, they seem to work for literally every hair type from straight to wavy to curly! In fact, the curly lob is one of the most beautiful and stylish cuts we recommend when asked how to style naturally curly hair. Also, ladies looking for curly hairstyles that give you tons of freedom in terms of styling different looks, this is the one for you.
Styling Tips For Curly Hair
Now you know the styles you want to create, let us talk you through our top haircare tips for ladies with beautiful curly hair. Afterward, you’ll find your curls look so much healthier, are full of life and shine, and are so much easier to keep that way!
- Limit Shampoo Use
We get it, the urge to constantly wash your hair, especially on hot days or after working out is all too real. But, we have to recommend you stop! This is for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as curly hair is often much more porous than straight hair, it’s very difficult to eliminate all traces of your shampoo. Many shampoos contain sulfates that lead to frizz when not properly rinsed out, and even those that don’t can still leave an unwanted residue that messes with the balance of your curly hair.
Secondly, due to the twisty nature of curly hair, it’s much more difficult for the natural oils that come from our scalp to make their way down the lengths of our hair. If you’re washing those oils out every couple of days, they really don’t stand a chance of replenishing your lengths meaning your hair will become drier and frizzier the more frequently you clean it.
Instead, go ahead and limit shampoo use to once or twice a week. Your curls will thank you for it!
- Limit Straightening
The quickest way to kill those beautiful curls of yours? Clamping them between two super hot metal plates! If you want to keep the structure and bounce of your hair intact, we recommend staying as far away from straighteners as you can.
That said, if you do want to straighten your curls on the odd occasion, we understand. Just make sure you treat your tresses to a deep conditioning treatment before and after to retain your hair’s moisture.
- Use Conditioner
You might have already guessed this but if there’s a step you don’t want to miss in your hair wash routine, it’s most certainly the conditioner. Treating your hair from the mid-lengths to the tips of your locks will give extra help to the areas of your hair that don’t often reap the benefits of your hair’s natural oils.
- Wash With A Clarifying Shampoo Once A Month
Clarifying shampoo is great for ridding our hair of product build-up as well as general dirt and dead skin. However, it can sometimes strip curly hair a little too much. To make sure this doesn’t happen, use this type of shampoo just once a month and make sure to get your hands on a formula that’s specially made for curly hair.
- Use Helpful Styling Products
Aside from washing and conditioning your curls, it’s also good to include other moisturizing and defining products within your hair care routine. For example, we highly recommend introducing a volumizing mousse to add definition and texture to your curls as well as a nourishing hair oil to treat the ends.
- Coconut Oil
Our favorite post-wash and dry haircare product for curly hair? Coconut oil. Whilst other oils might sit on the surface and simply make your hair appear shiny, coconut oil will nourish it and take care from deep within. The result is deeply nourished, healthy-looking, and feeling hair that lasts.
To all the girls out there with curly hair style, we hope we’ve provided you with the knowledge to get the most out of your curls and fall back in love with the stunning texture of your hair. After all, your routine can be a simple one and, as we’ve shown, you don’t need to purchase a million different products to maintain the look and health of your curly hair.
Now, it’s time to try out all of those gorgeous styles we mentioned, or maybe even book in for a brand new cut with us here at the Anushka Spa & Salon. We can’t wait to welcome you!
