Microneedling may sound intimidating but the results are nothing short of amazing. At Anushka Cosmedical Centre, located at CityPlace in West Palm Beach, FL, we can’t help but rave about the benefits of this facial procedure. According to our injector, “Microneedling really gives your skin the added benefits by stimulating collagen which thickens your skin, so much that the results of smooth, radiant skin will outlast any typical facial. It’s such a safe office treatment, and is great for filling in acne scars.”
Our facial specialists at Anushka understand the intimidation of the name and the procedure but if you have had an opportunity to see the before and after images of Microneedling, there is no question on the effectiveness of this procedure.
Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Microneedling.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a facial treatment that uses a tool with 11 tiny needles that can be adjusted by your Anushka Cosmedical specialist anywhere between 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters.
Microneedling is used to penetrate the superficial layers of the skin. Microneedling can be considered a collagen induction or collagen production therapy which actually creates micro punctures in your skin. The tiny punctures created will be treated by your body the same way it would a large wound. Your body will send fibroblasts to create more collagen in the treatment area.
Our aestheticians are essentially helping to trick your body into thinking it has been wounded which in turn will thicken your skin and improve the texture.
At Anushka Spa & Salon, we begin each treatment with a thorough facial cleanser with hyaluronic acid followed by a growth factor serum. Your specialist will then use the tiny needles to penetrate the serum into your skin. We then follow it with another layer of the serum and apply a mask over the top layer to seal everything in.
Who Should Get Microneedling?
Microneedling is a great treatment for all skin types. It’s great for acne scarring, and because it doesn’t use heat and is totally mechanical, it’s safe for all skin colors and types. The treatment is wonderful for smoothing out the skin and filling in acne scars. Microneedling is also a great anti-aging treatment. As we age our skin begins to lose collagen and elasticity, the effects of the treatment will help rebuild areas with fine lines and wrinkles. Just make sure there aren’t any inflamed or infected areas on your skin, and if you have a cystic breakout, wait until it clears up before going in for your appointment.
Does It Hurt?
Microneedling shouldn’t typically hurt as your specialist at Anushka Cosmedical Centre will use a numbing cream to numb the area thoroughly prior to beginning the procedure. “We use the cream to numb the skin really well so that we can go as deep as needed, you should expect your skin to be slightly pink for the following few days. You may also have a few tiny scabs that will fade in just a few days from some of the deeper punctures,” our injector explains.
Which Areas on the Body Can Be Treated?
While micro-needling isn’t exclusively for the face, it is the most common treatment area. However, the treatment can take place anywhere on the body that the skin needs to be thickened, particularly in areas that have stretch marks. Areas may range from the legs, chest, or butt and 4 to 6 sessions are usually necessary for these areas.
How Often Can I Get It Done?
The answer to this question depends on the severity of your skin issues. If you have sensitive skin, you may need to wait longer between treatments. However, if your skin responds well to the treatment, we recommend micro-needling every 3-6 months. If you have a more severe case of acne scarring we recommend one session per month for 4 to 6 months. After this time you can simply come in for touch-ups when you feel your skin could use a little boost.
What Should I Do Afterwards?
We highly recommend avoiding makeup for the rest of the day, however, if it is unavoidable, it won’t harm you to wear a little later that evening. We also recommend avoiding retinol or anything with highly active ingredients for a few days. Your specialist will send you home with a box of growth factor serum to reapply before bed as well as the following morning.
How Do the At-Home Dermarollers Compare?
While home microneedling is effective in maintaining results, we do not recommend it for a full treatment. Our advice is to get started at Anushka Spa, Salon & Cosmedical Centre to find out exactly where your problem areas are and to help get you on the right track. Once you complete your treatment regimen with one of our specialists, feel free to use your at-home dermaroller for quick maintenance between touch-ups to extend the life of your micro-needling procedure.
