Statement Holiday Hairstyles to Wow the Room

The time has finally come to start thinking about holiday hairstyles. No really – we can’t believe it either! And while you might have the go-to hairstyle that you bring out for every special occasion, this might just be the year to mix things up.

The holidays are a time to get all glammed up and really wow the room. Whether that’s for your work Christmas party, or even visiting with a few friends before you spend time with your families on Christmas day. There are tons of opportunities to switch things up and make a statement, not to mention can be a game changer for the holiday outfit of your choosing (Santa suit, anyone?).

How Do I Style My Hair for the Holidays?

Before we get to all of the exciting holiday hairstyle inspo we have to share today, let’s talk more about choosing the best one for you. To start, determine your hair type and length – this will help narrow down the search and make it much easier to find a style that works with what you already have.

Once you know your type, think about the event that you’re attending or planning on going to. Do you want something more sophisticated or edgy? Or maybe something timeless but trendy? Then, it’s time to choose the hairstyle that best fits your look and personality. We’ve gathered a few of our favorites for you to check out below – each one is sure to make an impact no matter where you are headed.

Holiday Hair Styles

We want nothing more than for you to look and feel your best during the holidays. This is why we put together this list of holiday hairstyles. Take these as your inspiration and we’re positive your holidays will be nothing short of jolly!

Bubble braid

We thought we would start our list of holiday hairstyles with the bubble braid. This style is super easy to achieve but ends up looking like you put tons of effort in.

You’ll start by putting your hair into a high or low ponytail depending on your preference. Take small clear elastics and secure them around the ponytail, each a few inches apart. Use your fingers to pull apart each section so you get a nice bubble shape.

Pearl headband

When you think of pearls your mind might first go to a bridal look. But pearls are becoming such a popular trend for the holidays as well.

Consider adding a pearl headband to your hair, whether it’s up in a nice loose ponytail or down in beautiful waves. The headband might be just what you’ve been looking for to help complete your look.

The wet look

Are you someone who has seen the wet look and immediately thought you couldn’t pull it off? Think again!

This hairstyle is oh-so-chic and can be done using the right technique. Mousse and/or styling gel is going to be your best friend for this look as they will help you to achieve the look of dampness in the hair. You can slick the hair back or go for a bit more volume with an exaggerated side part.

Triple-twisted bun

Love your single bun? Why not make it a triple for the holidays!?

The triple bun helps to elevate your everyday bun and requires minimal time. Separate your hair into three vertical sections and secure each one into a ponytail using an elastic. Twist each of the ponytails into a bun and secure them with bobby pins. You might play around with the way you twist each bun and alternate directions.

Crown braid

The crown braid helps to give the appearance that you’re wearing a headband made out of your very own hair. You can choose any type of braid for this look, just make sure it stays put by using hair spray and plenty of bobby pins.

Add some curl to the rest of your hair or throw it in a chic ponytail to complete the look.

Waterfall braid

Speaking of braids, have you tried the waterfall braid yet? This hairstyle is always stunning and can help to elevate your look.

You might add some curls throughout the hair to help glam things up. Or add a velvet bow to finish off the look and get the holiday effect you’re looking for.

Big braided bun

Braiding your bun is a lovely way to add more volume to your bun and it also adds a touch of glamour to your look. Start by parting your hair on either side of the head and then gather it into a high ponytail. Secure with an elastic band and then braid the tail before wrapping it around the base of the ponytail, securing it with bobby pins as you go.

Classic and sleek

When you think of holiday hairstyles your mind might go to fancy updos. But sometimes going with the classics is better. Try wearing your hair all down and using a product to smooth down any stray hair. You can also achieve a classic and sleek look with a ponytail. Either way, a flat iron is always great for helping you to achieve this sleek and beautiful look.

You can even add some hair oil to amplify the shine.

Updo with face-framing pieces

Now we’re getting into the updos! But they’re nothing to be scared of.

Watch a few tutorials on how to get your hair off your shoulders and then work to style your face-framing pieces. We love using a flat iron on the two face-framing money pieces to add a nice wave and help the hair sit properly. This hairstyle is great for both short and long hair.

Long braid

The long braid is another simple hairstyle that won’t have you pulling your hair out to achieve it. Simply put your hair into a ponytail and style the front of the hair as you like. Then braid the hair until you achieve a nice long braid down your back.

You might take this one an extra step and add extensions to your ponytail. There’s no better time than the holidays to level up.

Waves with hairpins

Accessories can be so cute – especially during the holidays! You can use a hair curling wand to get some big beautiful waves in the hair. Then simply pick your favorite hair pins and add them to either side of your head. This will help to hold the front of the hair back, and also happens to be 10/10 adorable.

Half-up, half-down curls

The half-up, half-down hairstyle is a classic that allows you to get the best of both worlds. It’s practical but is also a style that compliments almost every face shape.

Go for a messier half-up, half-down look, or make your hair a bit sleeker by gelling or hair spraying back the front of your hair. Be sure to play around with curls and volume to achieve a more voluminous look. Or get a more chic style by taming stray hairs and using a flat iron.

Gems added throughout

If there was ever a time for glitz and glam the holidays are it. There are so many ways to incorporate gems into your holiday hairstyle. Whether it’s a bling-covered clip or individual gems added throughout the front of the hair.

There are also so many different ways to style your hair with gems as well, whether it’s down, up or half-up, half-down.

High ponytail

One of the simplest holiday styles you can do is a high ponytail! We love a high ponytail that’s slicked back in the front and then super high to create a fashion-forward look.

You might also flip up the ends of your ponytail with a flat iron for an additional touch.

Top knot

Speaking of high ponytails, you can also take things sky-high with a top knot. This is a different take on the messy bun as you slick back the hair and tie the hair into a bun nice and tight.

You can also do a messier, more undone, version of the top knot if the event you’re attending is on the more casual side. Either way, you really can’t go wrong.

This one is also perfect for greasy hair days.

Hollywood waves

Hollywood for the holidays? We’ll take it!

Regardless of the length of hair you have, this style is 10/10 chic for the holidays. Try using a thicker curling wand and sectioning off the hair before you twist it around the iron. Do each piece the same as you go so each of your waves fall in line.

Lots of layers

Thinking of trying a new haircut for the holiday season? We love the look of super layered hair that provides tons of bounce and volume.

Side-swept bob

Another great short hair style is the side-swept bob. Part the hair deeply so you can get a nice side sweep and then polish it off with some product to help it stay. You can also do this one a bit messier and use a blow dryer to add volume.

Twisted high bun

This is another great option for wearing your hair over the holidays. Section off your face-framing strands and style them how you like. Put your hair into a ponytail at the desired height and then twist smaller sections of it until they become smaller twists.

Do this throughout the ponytail and you’ll end up with an extra chic bun – so easy!
